The largest UK-based air ambulance operator, AirMed, has been awarded the EURAMI "Special Care" Accreditation. This is the first time that any UK-based air ambulance operator has gone through this stringent auditing process and been awarded the highest level of care standards.

"We have always been a great supporter of EURAMI and we felt that now was the right time for us to apply for accreditation knowing that we were more than capable of achieving the Special Care status" says David Quayle, Chief Flight Nurse. "Our medical department has increased substantially over the last few years  with significant investment taking place in terms of equipment, training and personnel. As a result of this and with the Learjet 35As commencing operations, the proportion of complex intensive care transfers has increased substantially. This year alone approximately 25% of our transfers have been intensive care and this can only be done successfully with the right structure and team in place."

AirMed has now been operating the Learjet 35As for 18 months and over this time they have certainly proven themselves. During October this year G-ZMED flew 26 out of 31 days and November is looking to be just as busy for the only Learjet 35As based in the UK.

Going into future, AirMed is continuing its investment and is well on its way to bringing the next stages of its development into service. Announcements will be made over the next few weeks.
