Since the now infamous ash crisis in April and May this year, AirMed have shown their resilience and standing in the air ambulance industry by continuing to grow. The launch of the second Learjet 35A has proved to be incredibly successful and both of the aircraft have remained busy.

In the weeks following the ash, AirMed has been to many destinations including; Islamabad, Russia, Uzbekistan, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine and Bulgaria aswell as all of the usual destinations like the Canary Islands, Spain, the Balearics and France. Now that the summer season is rapidly approaching AirMed predicts that things will only get busier.

In readiness for the forecast continued expansion, AirMed is investing heavily in more medical equipment, personnel and ground staff as well dedicated in-house booking facilities allowing a continuation of the excellent service that AirMed currently provides.

In the past 7 years AirMed has invested over $12million in new aircraft, medical equipment and maintenance facilities. A dedicated and longstanding team with many years experience, combined with consistent investment enables AirMed to provide the highest quality of service to a very broad client base. Whether it is for a passenger charter, a freight movement, providing EASA 145 maintenance services to third parties, or in its core Air Ambulance market, AirMed has 25 years of experience that is reflected in the high quality of service it provides.

With a wholly owned fleet of 9 aircraft, a worldwide AOC, pilots with over 17,000 hours of Learjet 35A flight time between them, including over 500 Atlantic crossings, AirMed is the UK’s market leading operator for Air Ambulance missions.

April 2010 will see the arrival of AirMed’s second Learjet 35A, which will be based at Oxford airport alongside the rest of the fleet and AirMed’s in-house EASA Part 145 Part M maintenance facility. The addition of G-ZMED, will mean that AirMed operates the most modern Learjet 35A air ambulance fleet available in the world.

Both of AirMed’s Learjet 35As have undergone the same Raisbeck and Avcon upgrades. This ensures the best range, speed and endurance can be achieved by the aircraft, which in turn will provide cost savings that can be passed onto clients.

In conjunction with the expansion of the fleet of aircraft, AirMeds medical department has also continued to develop, in particular under the guidance of Dr Jon Warwick who joined the company in 2003 as Medical Director. He brought with him his experience as a doctor in the aeromedical team of the RAF as well his current experience as a consultant anaesthetist within the world renowned John Radcliffe Trust group of hospitals. Dr Warwick is also one of AirMeds line pilots for the fleet of turbine aircraft. The medical department also benefits from a Chief Flight Nurse to help facilitate the faster turnaround of medical note evaluation, crew co-ordination and medical equipment/stock maintenance. David Quayle started in his post in December 2009 and will ensure his clinical currency by continuing to work in the Intensive Care department at the Oxford John Radcliffe Hospital.

This 25th year of operations marks the first stage of AirMeds development as an Air Ambulance operator. Using the vast experience which has been gained through more than 10,000 missions it has carried out, AirMed will continue to build on its high quality Air Ambulance service, in the future.
